Who's behind the scenes at A to Z Needlepoint?

A to Z Needlepoint is the online store for The Regal Rabbit, California's premier needlecraft retail store. The Regal Rabbit opened its doors on December 15, 1997. The owner, Diane McGregor, had been in the corporate world for 16 years, and unexpectedly became the casualty of "downsizing". Knowing that chances were slim that at the "advanced age" of 47 she could find another job in a similar position,
Diane decided to follow her dream of opening a needlework shop. With the help and encouragement of her dear friend and mentor, Rita Ivy, her dream
became a reality.
Stitching, an important part of life.
Stitching has been an important part of Diane's life since 1973. After attending Chico State College in California, Diane decided to get a fun job for a while before embarking on a real career. She moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to pursue another of her passions, dancing. After traveling in a road show with Martha Raye and working with Jimmy Durante, Diane was fortunate to land a dancing job in the largest show in Las Vegas, Hallelujah Hollywood, at the MGM Grand Hotel.
The show opened in 1973 and it was here that Dianes' interest in needlework was born. About 75% of the girls in the show were from Europe and did some form of handwork between shows. Diane took an interest and began by purchasing her first embroidery kit. It wasn't long until she was hooked.

As time went on and life became more hectic, needlework was put on the back burner. But in 1992 Diane found a local needlepoint shop, began taking
classes, and the addiction took hold once more. Caught up in the corporate world and commuting 3 ½ hours a day to her job, needlepoint became her saving grace. Her love of needlework was so great it was inevitable that she would one day open a shop.
The Regal Rabbit Name
Many people have asked how we chose the name The Regal Rabbit. The store carries everything from A to Z in the way of Needlepoint products. Since the store is much more than a needlework shop, Diane needed a name that
was not product specific, but was unique and, hopefully, easy to remember. She has always loved rabbits and has a large collection of them in her home.
There is not a room in Diane's house that doesn't have a least one rabbit in it. She called upon another friend, Nydia Goode, to come up with a name that
revolved around rabbits, and between the two of them, The REGAL RABBIT was born. We hope you like the name.
The Rooms in the Store
We have a permanent classroom on the needlework side of the shop that can accommodate approximately 12 students per class. Classes in a variety of
techniques such as needlepoint, cross stitch, beading, silk ribbon embroidery and tatting are offered on an ongoing, rotational basis. If you are going to be
the Sonoma County area please call ahead and see if a class is scheduled. We would love to have you join us.

In addition to the classroom, we also have the "Rabbit Room",a stitching area with overstuffed couches and chairs and a cherry wood fireplace, where stitchers can come and spend the day stitching and enjoying the company of others with similar interests. There is always coffee and tea available, so if you are in the area, please stop in and spend some time with us.
