All about f loor stands
If you have never stitched using a floor stand then you are missing one of the greatest inventions in the needlework world. Floor stands are a must if you enjoy doing decorative stitches. It holds your work and allows the proper use of a laying tool as well as making the whole process of stitching easier and more enjoyable. If you suffer from arthritis or carpel tunnel, a floor stand holds your work for you and eases the pain associated with holding your canvas in your hand.
Floor stands come in a variety of styles and materials. They all work on the same principle of holding your work and allowing easy access to the back of your canvas for ease in tying off your threads. Some, however, work easier than others and will last a lifetime if taken care of properly.
One of our favorites is K’s Creations metal floor stand. It is made of stainless steel and has limitless settings that allow for maximum ease of use for the stitcher. Not only does it swivel 360 degrees so that you can get your work in just the right spot, it has a swivel head that gives you more flexibility to get your work in just the perfect position. It also has a head that turns to allow you the flexibility of bringing your work straight on toward you or from the side, depending upon your stitching situation. This is great if you take your stand with you when you travel and you never know what circumstances you will be stitching under. It comes apart very quickly and is easily carried in your suitcase or stitching bag.
Another wonderful stand is the Lowery from England. It is also made of stainless steel and metal and works very much like K’s Creations stand. It comes at you from the side so it is not quite as flexible but is still a wonderful stand. You can also purchase an extra long L bar in case you stitch in a recliner or at a couch with overstuffed arms. This gives additional length so that you can get your work close to you. It also allows 360 degree swivel capabilities and the base of it is small enough to slide under your couch or chair to allow maximum stability. It also comes apart quickly and is easy to take with you on a trip.
